Information for Mentors

The Innovators’ Tea Party will be held at FLUX by Spacecubed in the Perth CBD on August 19th and 20th, 2017. Mentors at our 2017 event will attend one or more 1.5hr ‘speed-networking’ sessions where they will meet a number of high school girls in quick succession. During their session, mentors will conduct several short meetings, speaking to 1-3 students at a time. As a mentor, you will help students understand what you do on a day-to-day basis, what skills they are learning at school which are required in your work, why you chose your field and how you have made it to your current position.

This year there will be four general sessions which will include a wide range of STEM professions, and four themed sessions which target a specific learning area – they are Environmental Sciences, Health Sciences and Medicine, Data and Computer Science, and Engineering. Depending on your field, you might be able to attend a few themed sessions – for example a software engineer might fit under the Data & Computer Science as well as the Engineering session. It’s up to you to choose which sessions you would like to apply for.

This year’s timetable is shown below:

We are hoping to bring together the most diverse group of women we can – from women just starting their careers to those who are experts in their fields. All mentors will be invited to a post-event sundowner which is a great opportunity to meet other like-minded STEM women across a number of different industries. Mentors will be required to arrive early to their session, and either attend or listen to a recording of a short mentor training session closer to event day.

Applications closed on May 19th. We are delighted by the number of women who have applied for this event – our mentor team this year is incredible!
